Heritage Canyon

A remnant of the past, this 1800's village was built inside a former rock quarry overlooking the Mississippi River. Heritage Canyon is a 12 acre wooded nature walk dotted with buildings that take the visitor back to pioneer living. Stroll through the park following the brick paved paths. The canyon features a log cabin settlement, one-room school house, blacksmith shop, church, general store and much more. The swinging bridge, a favorite among children is made of steel-woven cables once used in quarry operations. All of the buildings house artifacts from times past.

Holland in Illinois

Fulton's authentic Dutch windmill, "de Immigrant" was built in the Netherlands, disassembled and reassembled by Dutch craftsmen. The windmill is fully operational and volunteers are on hand providing educational tours and information. Fresh stone-ground flour and other unique Dutch items are available for purchase at the Windmill Cultural Center, located next to the windmill. Dutch Diner

Recently re-opened, this restaurant, adjacent to the Reagan Birthplace, is well known to locals and tourists alike. Great food and reasonable prices.

Ronald Reagan Home and School

A driving tour brochure of the Reagan homes, Silas Willard School where Ronald attended the first grade and the home where Nancy Reagan’s grandparents lived is available at the Galesburg Welcome Center, 2163 E. Main. Markers identify each home, there is a Ronald Reagan exhibit inside the Welcome Center.

Galesburg Railroad Museum

Experience railroading of the early 1900’s. Extensive collection of railroad memorabilia on view for the public. Tours through restored passenger engine built in 1930 by Baldwin Locomotive Works, a fully–outfitted car used by the Railway Mail Service and Railway Express Agency, a Pullman parlor car, caboose and two 1950’s inspection cars outfitted with track maintenance tools.

Galesburg Historical Train Tour

Sunday,June 25, 2006 The Galesburg Historical Society will offer a Tram Tour on the early lives spent in Galesburg of former President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan. Tom Wilson will be on board to conduct the tour sharing stories and giving the history of these two great people and their connection to Galesurg. The tours start at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will be approximately 45 mninutes in length. You can catch the tour at the BNSF Amtrak Depot.

Carl Sandburg State Historic Site

Author-poet Carl Sandburg was born here in a 3 room cottage on January 6, 1878. From these humble beginnings, Sandburg went on to achieve international acclaim for his poetry, children’s stories, and six volume biography of Abraham Lincoln. A visitor’s center and gift shop is located next to the birthplace.

Ronald Reagan Home

The home itself is not open for viewing, but there is a historical marker located in front of the house noting that President Reagan resided there from 1918-1919.

Ronald Reagan Exhibit

An educational exhibit detailing the life and times of America's 40th President is housed at the Monmouth area Chamber of Commerce located at 90 Public Square, Monmouth, Illinois. The hours are Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM. Phone 309-734-3181. The exhibit features memorabilia of Ronald Reagan's historical ties to Monmouth.

Metamora Court House

The Metamora Courthouse was built in 1845 and served as the center of county government until the county seat was moved to Eureka in 1896. It is one of two surviving courthouses on the historic Eighth Judicial Circuit traveled by Abraham Lincoln. National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
